There is a festival going on in which two young musicians introduce Phoenix Arizona to the Japanese composer Kohei Kondo. It is the brainchild and labor of love of the Tandem Duo, Sara Off and Marilyn Clark Silva who began an exciting journey six years ago by blending their instruments, the violin and the marimba.
While the unusual combination of instruments brings challenges in finding and creating repertoire, it’struly an impressive achievement for two classical musicians, still in their twenties, to bring together an a weeklong event, the Kondo Festival, and they’ve done it by building partnerships with The Phoenix Center for the Arts, the Tempe Center for the arts, the ASU School of Music, Tempe’s Clark Park Community Garden, King Coffee in Tempe and the Prestige Academy while still managing to hone their craft. K-Bach's Sterling Beeaff sat down with violinist Sara Off and percussionist Marilyn Clark Silva.
